Hazardous Materials and Batteries

Electronic Transport is fully licensed to handle and transport hazardous material . All of our drivers and movers are trained in the proper handling techniques of commercial batteries and other hazardous materials. We have specialized equipment and vehicles to safely handle and transport a wide range of materials.

We are experts in the area of commercial grade battery removal and transportation. Electronic Transport has safely moved thousands of industrial batteries around the country. Our employees have a great deal of experience with both wet batteries and jell cell batteries from manufacturers such as Exide/G.N.B., C&D, CSB, DEKA, and Enersys.

Safe battery transportation involves a series of procedures that require careful attention to the details. The first step in this process is to identify any units that exhibit signs of structural degradation. Problematic batteries are made safe before they are prepared for transportation. This may involve something as simple as placing a neutralizing compound on the terminals to sealing the entire battery in a special metal container. After the repairs have been completed, the batteries are moved to a staging area, where they will be prepared for transportation.

The movers carefully protect the surrounding facilities before moving the batteries. This involves placing wallboard in the door jams and hallways to protect the walls from nicks. A laminate is also placed on the ground to protect floors from any mares. Once the facility is properly protected, the batteries are moved onto pallets.

After the batteries have been moved to the staging area, they are secured to the pallet with the use of metal banding strips. Once the batteries are fastened down, the entire pallet is covered with stretch wrap.

The final stage of the process involves loading the secured pallets onto a vehicle for transportation. Electronic Transport uses vehicles that are equipped with rail-gates and air-ride suspensions. The rail gates are designed to handle the heavy load of commercial batteries. Rail gates are much more stable than many of the other types of lift gates - this reduces the risk of injury to the mover or cargo. After the pallets are secured inside the vehicle, the batteries are usually transported to a smelter.
